"Quick Transit Card" function: Same as physical transit card
In the early morning of March 30, Apple upgraded its mobile operating system iOS to version 11.3 and its watch operating system Watch OS to version 4.3.
In addition to the regular system improvements, this upgrade also adds a new feature for Apple phone and watch users in Shanghai and Beijing: Quick Transit Card.
Simply put, users can store a virtual transportation card in their Apple phone or watch, which can be used to take public transportation such as subways and buses.
Its usage is exactly the same as that of a physical transportation card. It does not require an Internet environment or to turn on Bluetooth, and there are no special requirements for subway entry and exit gates (that is, no specific gates are required). Just hold your phone or watch close to the card reader without any other operations, and you can enjoy the various ride or exchange discounts provided by the transportation card.
How to use it? See the guide
① First, create a transportation card on your iPhone or watch:
Open the "Wallet" option on your iPhone and you will see the latest prompt for adding a transportation card.
There are two ways to add users:
The first is to create a new transportation card directly and then recharge it with a debit card. Similar to the physical transportation card, this virtual card has its own card number and also requires a 20 yuan refundable service fee, but users can return the card at any time through the "Shanghai Transportation Card Official Version" App and get back the deposit.
After the trial run is over, the refundable service fee will be returned to the user's "Shanghai Transportation Card Official Version" App.
Another way to create a card is to transfer the existing transportation card balance to an Apple phone to create a new card.
From the mobile phone screen, it reminds users that as long as they enter the first four digits of the original transportation card and then put the phone close to the transportation card, the balance will be automatically transferred to the new card in the phone. However, similar to directly creating a new transportation card, this virtual card also has its own card number, and the 20 yuan refundable service fee will be deducted from the original card balance or remind users to recharge.
Note: A user can add multiple transportation cards to their iPhone, including adding Shanghai and Beijing transportation cards at the same time. At the same time, the phone and watch use two different cards. According to Apple's instructions, users can choose a card as the active card and switch it by themselves.
This means that users can choose the most suitable transportation card based on the city they are in and their actual card usage needs.
②After completing the addition of the quick transit card, the reporter conducted tests at the subway station and on the bus.
Generally speaking, the usage is exactly the same as using a transportation card, that is, just bring your phone or watch close to the card reader, without waking up the phone or pausing the app you are using. For example, the reporter swiped his phone through the subway entrance gate while listening to music.
However, after the subway entrance and exit gates and bus card readers successfully read the quick transit card in the mobile phone or watch, relevant prompts will appear on the mobile phone or watch.
For example, when the reporter swiped his watch to enter the subway, the watch displayed "No fees were charged for this transaction, current balance is RMB***", and reminded the reporter that the current status was "Subway (on the way)". When the reporter swiped his watch to leave the subway, the phone reminded him that the fee was deducted. When taking the bus, the relevant billing information was also sent to the reporter's phone or watch in the form of a notification.
Can I use swipe to pay for taxi?
Apple said that currently Shanghai's Express Transit Card supports users taking the subway, bus, ferry and maglev train, while Beijing's Express Transit Card supports subway and bus. The fee settlement is the same as the physical transportation card, including Shanghai's 10% discount for subway rides of 70 yuan or more in a single month, and 1 yuan discount for subway and bus transfers within two hours.
However, Apple has not officially stated that Express Transit Cards can be used to pay for taxi fares. The reporter asked Apple about this detail and learned that this is because the transit card readers of some taxis are old and cannot guarantee full support for Express Transit Cards. However, many taxis in Shanghai currently provide UnionPay QuickPass services, and in these taxis, Apple users can directly pay fares with Apple Pay.
Recharge and withdraw card at any time
The reporter found that the Express Transportation Card solves the problem of recharging and returning the card at any time. When users use the physical transportation card, if they find that the balance is insufficient, they need to go to the designated recharge outlets to recharge.
However, if you find that the balance on the Express Transit card in your Apple Wallet is insufficient, you can recharge it with a bank card anytime and anywhere.
You can return the card through the official app of Shanghai Transportation Card Company by entering the card number of the Quick Transit Card.
The Express Transit card also provides an estimate of the cost of insufficient balance or route:
Users can set reminder amounts based on actual usage. For example, if the balance on the Quick Transit Card is less than 10 yuan, the user will be reminded to recharge in time. Or when planning a route using the phone's built-in map application, the phone will give reminders based on the balance on the Quick Transit Card, indicating whether the balance on the user's Quick Transit Card can pay for the relevant fees and whether it needs to be recharged in time.
If you lose your phone or watch,
Is the bound express transit card still safe?
Apple staff said that usually when users lose their Apple phones or watches, they will use functions such as "Find My" to look for them. If they really can't find it, they can set the phone or watch to "lost" status and then erase all bank cards or quick transit cards bound to the phone to avoid unauthorized use.
Afterwards, users can use other Apple devices and their Apple account to retrieve the previously bound Express Transit Card, and then choose to continue using it or return the card according to actual needs.
The reporter found through actual testing that with the addition of Apple Express Transit Card, the needs of Shanghai citizens to take public transportation such as subways and buses without wallets or transportation cards have been further met.
At present, in addition to Apple's Express Transit Card, mobile phones from brands such as Huawei, Xiaomi, and Samsung also support users to use NFC (near field communication) technology to swipe their phones to take the subway; the "Metro Metropolis" App launched by Shanghai Metro allows mobile phone users who have installed this App to take the subway by "scanning" the QR code. (For details, click: Shanghai Metro can now swipe your phone to enter the station)
This time , Apple's Express Transit Card integrates various functions of the original physical transportation card. If the relevant technology is promoted in smart phones of different brands, the citizens' travel will be more convenient.
